This course is suitable for beginners. The focus will be on fiction and creating short stories, writing for the stage and screen and non-fiction. Other areas of study may include: poetry, discussions, short writing exercises, critical analysis and revision of work. Students will learn by putting into practice the skills that are shown and will be encouraged to develop their own style, but are free to approach exercises and activities in a manner suitable to how they wish to develop as a writing.The course will help students to understand: -The basics of writing short stories and long form fiction. -Structure and shape of narrative writing. -How to create compelling characters and locations. -How to adopt a critical and constructive approach to their work. -How to write for mediums other than prose. -What they can do with their finished work when the course is completed.Students can progress to the Advanced Creative Writing class.
