Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport (Development Coaching & Fitness)

This programme is ideally suited for individuals with a genuine interest in sport development coaching and fitness, but who also have the ability and determination to succeed. We ask that ideally you are actively involved with a sports team or health and fitness club as this will enhance your research. There is an expectation for all sport students to take part in college sports teams and enrichment activities, before lessons and on Wednesday afternoons, throughout the year. This programme provides you with an opportunity to gain an insight into the wide and diverse nature of this growing sector. The programme retains a strong academic base, whilst including practical units and modules. You will need to be confident, self- motivated and a good communicator as this will stand you in good stead for your research work as well as your work placement. You will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands and learn about the employment area you have chosen, and develop the skills you need to start a career. The programme is made up of a variety of 18 practical and theoretical units from the wide nature of this growing sector. Each unit is worth a number of credits which will make up your final grade. The following are a sample of the units (these may vary each year): -Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport -Sport Nutrition -The physiology of fitness -Instructing physical activity and exercise -Assessing risk in sport -Sports injuries -Fitness training and programming -Exercise for specific groups -Sports coaching -Exercise health and lifestyle -Sports development -Practical individual sport -Sport and exercise massage -Practical team sport -Fitness testing for sport and exercise -Work experience in sport With our help, you will be expected to organise a relevant work placement each year.
