This qualification is designed to engage and support learners who are interested in gaining an insight into what is required to work within the motor vehicle industry. This qualification could lead to jobs related to the industry or further progression onto a level one programme. You will develop your knowledge and skills in -engine systems, components and operation -steering and suspension systems components and maintenance -braking systems components and maintenance -wheels and tyres construction and maintenance -exhaust systems components and maintenance -health and safety practices and good housekeeping -tools, equipment and materials Learners will have a period in the colleges own MOT station to gain valuable work experience to prepare them for employment. Programme tutors will arrange visits to industry based events, such as the Motorsport Show.The programme comprises practical tasks and technology in the form of underpinning knowledge. You will be assessed through a combination of: -workshop based competence tasks and questioning -written assessments -external online testing -Functional Skills assessments in Maths and English -E-portfolio of evidence to show your competence and understanding of the qualification and skills The study programme is approximately 16 hours per week for 36 weeks and students will be expected to complete an additional two hours minimum of self-study each week. The timetable is usually over two and a half consecutive days.The retail automotive sector employs over 500,000 people with a turnover of 146 billion a year! This programme is suitable for those individuals who wish to undertake a qualification which will support their progress into employment or further study such as the Level 1 Light Vehicle Maintenance.
