UAL Extended Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) The Post-16 musical theatre course is suited to young people with an appetite to develop skills and knowledge in all areas of the performing arts. Students study the UAL Extended Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre), which is equivalent to 3 A Levels. The main aim of the course is to provide students with the opportunity to explore a wide range of performance styles with particular emphasis on integrating the performing arts. The course is designed to give equal focus to dance, acting and singing. There are many exciting performance opportunities on the course ranging from acting and dance showcases to music concerts and full scale musicals in the School's theatres and at a theatre venue outside the school. Students also have the opportunity to perform in the local, national and possibly the international community. Community projects running this year include a project with the elderly, a project working with local secondary school children and a project working with the Turnaround Centre in Croydon. This centre supports young offenders and the project is creating devised work using the artistic skills of the clients. It is a busy course in which students enjoy access to tuition, facilities and resources of the highest quality. Musical theatre students are typically versatile and flexible in their approach to their work. The demands of the course are such that students need an energised and committed approach to developing both their practical skills and academic appreciation of the arts.
