UAL Extended Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting) On this 16 hours a week course, students study both the theory and practice of a wide range of Theatre styles. In Year 12 all students take part in workshop productions of a number of important Theatre genres, learning about important movements in Theatre development. These range from using Stanislavskian techniques to create truthful characters on stage in term 1 to devising powerful new plays that explore social issues in our political Theatre term. Students explore Artaud and Brook and push the boundaries of Theatre in our experimental term and will perform in a fully produced Shakespeare play in term 4. They will finish their first year by working with various community groups. In Year 12 students also study Theatre history, voice, scriptwriting, site specific Theatre and physical Theatre. Year 13 is dedicated to focusing on the future. Students form their own Theatre companies and perform work in our new Theatre as part of our month long season ‘Common Ground’. Students take on major acting roles in these productions. We have always selected from a diverse range of writers for our productions. In recent years our work has included plays by Ariel Dorfman, Tony Kushner, Debbie Tucker Green, Timberlake Wertenbaker, Roy Williams, Fin Kennedy, Caryl Churchill, Howard Brenton and Mike Bartlett. All students are also given the opportunity to work as directors in which they work with younger students, study scripts and run workshops and to learn skills in how to prepare for auditions, interviews and castings.
