Maths Functional Skills Level 1

Through this course you will learn more about functional skills mathematics and how this can help either at work or in everyday life. The course works towards a nationally recognised Level 1 or 2 qualification and will prepare you for GCSE standard. The qualification will look good on your CV and you'll become more confident in working with numbers and real life maths problems. The course covers the aspects of maths that are of use in day to day life. This includes; adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers using a range of strategies, solving simple problems involving ratio, working out areas and perimeters in practical situations and finding range and mean.

Name: Maths Functional Skills Level 1 Qualification title: Functional Skills qualification in mathematics Qualification type: Assessment There is a two hour session each week, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. All new students are interviewed and given a quick assessment so that lessons can be designed with their individual needs in mind. For some, this will include help with basic adding and subtracting, others may only need to brush up on certain topics. Students work in a number of different ways, individually, in pairs and in groups. Students are encouraged to help each, creating a relaxed, supportive environment in which to learn. Students are encouraged to take the Numeracy National Tests at Level 1 and 2. Students are expected to complete about half an hour of homework between the weekly lessons. Entry requirements

The only things that you need to bring are a pen, pencil, ruler and pad of paper. A calculator is not needed as the emphasis of the course is on mental maths, however it can be useful to use a calculator to check your work.
