This course enables you to reflect critically on the theories, purposes and practices underlying your teaching. By critically engaging with your practice in the light of current theoretical principles, you will be able to develop and refine your approaches to fostering learning. You will consider a range of issues as applied to PCET learners including: identifying learner needs; planning and delivering teaching; using resources; effective communication; social interaction in the classroom; assessing learning and evaluating teaching. It also covers aspects of policy and values in PCET, seeking to develop reflective professional practice across all of the above areas. There are 6 modules: Year 1: a) Introduction to teaching and learning; b) Planning and assessing; c) Applying theory to practice. Year 2: a) Reflecting on practice; b) Curriculum; c) Professional practice Year 1 of the course is level 4 for all students. In year 2 the choice is between level 5 or 6. To access level 6, you need to have a degree and your work needs to be judged as strong enough. If not, you remain on the level 5 route.
