Maths involves studying the theory/principles of mathematics. You will also gain the skills to apply this knowledge throughout your course and in the future. You will cover - Number, Algebra, Shapes, Data handling and Space & Measurement. Maths is an important subject in life and in all the sciences. English involves learning ways to communicate your ideas clearly - whatever you are writing. You will develop your reading and writing skills through a variety of tasks, learning exactly what you need in order to pass. Sociology develops your understanding of how individuals, groups, institutions and societies depend on each other. In Unit 1 you will learn about societies, families and educational issues, whilst Unit 2 concentrates on crime and deviance, mass media and power relationships between employees and employers; children, parents, school teachers and other children; members of the public and the police. Business Studies will allow you to actively engage in the study of business and economics. This subject will help you to develop as an effective, independant critical and reflective thinker with an enquiring mind. You will also be able to distinguish facts and opinions, to build arguments and make informed judgements. You will develop a knowledge of contemporary issues that relate to a range of local, national and global contexts. You will also be able to appreciate the range of perspectives of different stakeholders in relation to business and economic activities. Statistics will allow you to develop your knowledge of data collection, processing, representing and analysing data, reasoning, interpreting and discussing results and proability. Statistics will provide you with an opportunity to develop skills in planning a statistical enquiry, collecting and representing data, evaluating results and communicating conclusions in a variety of ways, with the use of ICT.
