The Symphony after Beethoven

In his symphonic career Beethoven radically reshaped what a symphony could be, leaving the composers who came after him with an enormous challenge: what to do next? This course will look at symphonic responses from Schubert, Berlioz, Mahler and Bruckner. Tutor: Edward Henderson (external website) Break week: 30th May.
