Mechanical Maintenance Higher Apprenticeship at Level 4 (EAL)

Mechanical maintenance apprentices spend the first 9 months of their apprenticeship learning mechanical engineering craft skills. This forms the foundation of their apprenticeship. During this period the apprentices gain experience of turning, milling, grinding and bench fitting. After the initial year a further 15 months is spent specialising in mechanical maintenance. Where the apprentices spend time gaining experience and knowledge required for maintaining the sites mechanical systems. The following disciplines are covered: Steam systems Vacuum systems Ventilation systems Compressed air systems During the apprenticeship you also study at college to gain a level 4 Technical Certificate (HNC). This is in preparation for the on-site phase where they put the first 2 years of their apprenticeship into practice when they join AWE's maintenance and technical sections to further enhance their skills. All practical training is completed in the AWE Skills Academy and via work placements within our business. Qualifications gained include BTEC Higher National certificate NVQ 4
