Improve your Children's Book Illustration

UPDATED 20161222 13:28:59

This is a course for those with some experience of drawing and/or painting. People who love children's books and have artistic curiosity and an eagerness to create will particularly enjoy this experience. No previous qualifications or experience are needed but it would be an advantage to have completed the previous course "Get started with Children´s Book Illustration" You will cover topics ranging from gesture drawing and finding simple shapes to mastering shading. Sketching characters, creatures and concepts in a fantastic companion will teach you to sketch confidently while helping you improve the way you design. Your journey will begin with a look at drawing materials and techniques, before moving on to essential warm- up exercises to help you become familiar with the fundamental basics. A master project will take you from concept to final illustration, walking you step by step through poses, designs and costumes before culminating in a final scene. Through discussion and demonstrations and one-to-one tutoring you will undertake exercises and create finished illustrations. We will look at the relationship between layered messages, style and content, and will discuss each other's work. Your work will be reviewed by you and your tutor on a weekly basis. Your tutor will advise you on progress and provide verbal and written feedback. NCFE Level 1 Award in Creative Craft You can progress onto arts courses in a choice of subjects. Your tutor will be able to advise. A sketch/note book (comfortable size), any medium suitable for illustration may be used (e.g. charcoal, ink, water colours, pastels, collage, tempera...) but not oils.
