Improvers Patchwork and Quilting

The course is suitable for anyone wanting to continue to develop skills in sewing, patchwork and quilting. Some previous knowledge will be necessary Learners will continue to develop the necessary skills needed such as measuring and cutting fabric. They will then apply these skills to experimenting with the techniques of intermediate patchwork techniques and quilting. These techniques will be carried out mainly by machine but twith some handsewing techniques. Learners will develop existing skills to create new and exciting patchwork blocks. These will then be used to create a finished piece. Learning will also take place through discussion and feedback. Learners will be given regular feedback as they progress through the skills required to produce samples of patchwork and quilting. The tutor will informally assess the work at regular intervals. You will be required to compile a portfolio of the work that you produce as evidence of your learning along with a finished project. NCFE Entry Level 1 Award in Creative Craft Progression courses in patchwork and quilting are possible. A range of other sewing classes are offered. Advice will be given by your tutor at the end of the course. You will need to bring a sewing kit, containing needles, sewing thread, fabric scissors, a tape measure and pins. A selection of fabrics will also be required for producing your samples of patchwork and quilting (any colours and patterns will be suitable including recycled fabrics). Wadding will be needed for quilting (approx 50cm x 50cm) which is available from all haberdasheries and craft shops. You will also need a pen, pencil, ruler, and paper for making notes.
