Equestrian coaching has moved on from a purely teaching role and has developed to encompass equestrian performance and training. This course provides underpinning knowledge of the principles of equine performance and coaching within the context of the equine industry as a whole. This course can be studied full-time over two years or on a part-time basis over three to four years. In the first year you will study a range of theoretical and practical modules including Fitness and Performance Testing Training and Management of the Performance Horse and Principles of Sports Coaching that set the foundation of the modules you will cover in year two. In year two you will study modules based around current developments within the field of equine performance including recent technologies and findings. You will also cover both rider and equine psychology and take further modules in specialist sports coaching and equine sports injury and therapy. The Foundation degree programme has a vocational approach and includes the opportunity for you to undertake two periods of work placement in an area of your choice one of three weeks and one of five weeks. You will be encouraged to seek placements within the field of Equine Performance such as specialist training yards and Coaching environments.
