The Subsidiary Diploma is delivered in year 1, on successful completion of students can continue to the Extended Diploma in year 2 which is the equivalent of three A-Levels. The first year of the course develops skills in a range of art and design subjects, this enables students to select areas to specialise in during the second year. The first year includes units in drawing, contextual influences and theory, techniques, media, research and design.
