Name: Counselling Skills - Level 2 Certificate (Edexcel) - Evening Qualification title: Certificate in Counselling Skills (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment This qualification is intended for candidates who want to learn initial counselling skills so that they can help other people - either voluntary or an employed situation and/or want to develop their understanding of counselling in order to decide on whether to continue towards training as a counsellor at a later stage. The course is part-time and will run for 30 weeks. Prospective trainees should be aware that the course involves experiential learning and self-awareness exercises that encourage participation in the learning experience. Throughout the course trainees will be expected to take responsibility for managing and evidencing their own learning. Trainees will not be trained counsellors on completion of the course. The course will enable students to: Use initial counselling skills ethically and safely. Manage helping interaction. Communicate empathic understanding. Manage an active listening space. Use self awareness to facilitate helping work. Use counselling skills coherently. Use study skills to help manage learning Internal assessment Assessment is on-going involving self assessment, peer feedback, and tutor assessment, and is designed and conducted internally to meet specific requirements outlined by the awarding body. Trainees are required to produce a portfolio of documentary evidence, including a written assignment, and a self review, to achieve the learning outcomes of all seven units. External assessment The trainee will complete a Candidate Feedback Paper on a CPCAB video of a "helping session" under time constrained conditions. This Candidate Feedback Paper will be assessed externally by the awarding body. Trainees are required to be assessed as proficient in both Internal and External assessment elements to achieve the qualification.
