Physical Activity, Nutrition and Health - Foundation Degree (Liverpool John Moores)

UPDATED 20161220 11:57:23

The Physical Activity, Nutrition & Health Foundation Degree was designed in response to industry feedback in relation to the low number of graduates qualified to work across the increasingly holistic area of health improvement. This programme incorporates three clear strands; health, nutrition and physical activity, which were highlighted as a public health key focus by the Government and are the pre-requisite areas for graduates to possess when  looking to develop a career in the area of health improvement.  The health elements provide students with the underpinning concepts of health from differing perspectives combining elements of social care and physical education with sociology and health studies.  The nutrition strand focuses on the provision of a knowledge base that graduates will increasingly be dependent on the need for those working in health improvement to have a firm understanding of the application and impact of nutrition on both individual and community health. The final key strand is that of physical activity; a key component of the Government's campaign to reduce inactivity and sedentary behaviours and a skill set that many health graduates do not currently possess. Many of our graduates will progress on to seek employment and career paths in and around the local area and as such we must equip them to work in a region with poor health statistics linked to economic deprivation, the new and innovative programme that differentiates itself from other Higher Education Institutions as well as having the potential to impact on and change lives.
