F699 - The aim of the course is to give mature learners a second chance at education and support those aiming to progress to the Access to HE Diploma and Higher Education courses at university, with a focus on Social Sciences. This exciting transitional course enables students to develop highly desirable transferrable skills in addition to improving confidence in own abilities and subject knowledge. To achieve the Stepping Up Diploma, 45 credits are required at level 2. All modules are internally assessed and internally and externally moderated. Core units: Study Skills English & Communication Career Planning Team Work Skills GCSE Maths or Functional Skills Maths (optional) GCSE English (optional) Subject specific units: ICT Business Finance Sociology: Young people and deviance, Law and discrimination Psychology: Abnormal behaviour The course can be studied as follows: One year programme (Studying at Level 2) The timetable usually works out at 2-3 days a week in lessons plus 2 days in self directed study. On successful completion of the course (and achieving GCSE Maths and English grade C or above) you will be prepared for entry onto the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma to HE Diploma offered at The Hub, Doncaster. Career routes relevant to this course are endless. In addition to developing abilities and self-confidence in academic and personal skills, it is a step up to studying the Level 3 Access to HE Diploma which could lead to teaching, humanities and social work professions.
