The VTCT Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Hairdressing and Barbering (QCF) is a vocational qualification that will confirm your competence as an assistant junior hairdresser or barber. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as an assistant junior hairdresser or barber, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of an Entry level qualification in hairdressing and/or a successful skills test or interview. This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as an assistant junior hairdresser or barber including: shampooing and conditioning hair, preparing for hair services, preparing the work area, and assisting in the monitoring health and safety practices in the salon. You will also develop your understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: assisting with salon reception duties, assisting with shaving services, assisting with blow-drying hair, assisting with hair colour services, assisting with perming services, assisting with plaiting and twisting hair, assisting with removing hair extensions. The structure of this qualification provides you with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required for a career as an assistant junior hairdresser or barber. Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the anatomy of the hair, health and safety, client care and hair product knowledge. You will develop a range of technical assisting skills in hairdressing and barbering services. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients, when assisting with salon reception duties.
