It is suitable for those wishing to train as a veterinary nurse but who do not yet have the required qualifications, or for those who work in a veterinary practice but who do not wish to undertake veterinary nurse training. Areas of Study Introduction to common animal species, animal handling, restraint and movement animal health, hygiene and disease control, introduction to animal emergencies and first aid, introduction to veterinary anaesthesia and radiography, administration of veterinary medication, basic dispensing and pharmacy, introduction to animal euthanasia and bereavement. This list is not exhaustive. Work Placements 600 hours of work experience within a suitable veterinary practice must be logged as part of the course of study. Many of the assessments are carried out at this placement. Method of Assessment The course is assessed in a variety of ways including written assignments, tests, presentations as well as practical assessments involving the animals at the College Animal Unit. (It should be noted that the majority of assessments are written).
