You will develop animal handling skills and gain an understanding of how to maintain the health and welfare of a wide range of animal species. Areas of Study Understand and promote animal health, understand the principles of animal biology, undertake animal handling and safe working, undertake and review work experience in the land-based industries, understand the principles and undertake the practice of animal nursing, understand and interpret animal behaviour and communication, undertake kennel and cattery management, understand and undertake wildlife management and rehabilitation. This list is not exhaustive. Work Placements One day a week is spent at a work placement. This is assessed as part of the industrial experience unit. Method of Assessment The course is assessed in a variety of ways including written assignments, tests, presentations as well as practical assessments involving the animals at the College Animal Unit. (It should be noted that the majority of assessments are written).
