This course is a good starting point if you are considering studying for a Bookkeeping qualification or looking for employment in a role where some bookkeeping knowledge would be useful. With the other learners in your class, you will explore and learn the essential numerical skills required for accounting and bookkeeping. You will start to develop an understanding of the fundamental rules of double-entry bookkeeping and how they are used to produce the balance sheet and the profit and loss account.After studying this course, you should be able to:Understand and apply the essential numerical skills required for bookkeeping and accounting.Understand and explain the relationship between the accounting equation and double-entry bookkeeping. Record transactions in the appropriate ledger accounts using the double-entry bookkeeping system.Balance off ledger accounts at the end of an accounting period.Prepare a trial balance, balance sheet and a profit and loss account.Your tutor will also support you to improve your English and maths skills alongside your learning of your vocational subject. This will include assessing your current skills and planning learning activities related to your subject that are designed to develop your skills in these areas. No previous knowledge of bookkeeping is required although it will help if you have a good understanding of maths.This course is suitable if you are looking to start a career in bookkeeping and accounting.You can check the suitability of this course for a preferred career path or route to employment by looking at various job profiles on the National Careers Service website: www.nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.ukA good knowledge and use of English language at Level 1 is required for this course.
