UPDATED 20161208 15:21:10

A Level Economics New 2 Year Linear A level course Course Content Economics is the study of how to manage scarce resources and the choices faced by individuals, firms and governments. Students will explore a variety of markets and economies from around the world and look at how intervention in these markets and economies can raise standards of living. The A Level in Economics encourages students to 'think as economists' and develop a range of analytical, questioning and reasoning skills. Students will develop a strong grounding in both microeconomics and macroeconomics, drawing on local, national and global contexts. Students will learn to explain, analyse and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the market economy and the role of the government within a market economy, and be able to criticise economic models of enquiry, recognising the limitations of economic models. Assessment The qualification is assessed by three exams that are sat at the end of the two year course. Each exam lasts two hours and there will be a combination of short answer, multiple choice and extended response questions. Progression Students have been successful in progressing to a range of universities from LSE, Warwick, Durham, Newcastle and Northumbria to De Montfort to study Economics, Economics and Finance, Mathematics with Economics and other Business degrees. An Economics A level provides a good grounding for employment in a wide variety of careers within the finance sector such as accountancy and investment banking. Similarly it is a well-received subject for careers in business in areas such as marketing and manufacturing.
