You will be encouraged to take a broad view of design and technology, and food science and nutrition, to develop their capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. What will the lessons be like? At AS, candidates study nutrition and design and making food products. Knowledge of food science and the wide range of materials and components used in the making of food products are developed. You will be given the opportunity to develop and solve a problem relating to food design and making in the coursework, whilst the examination tests knowledge, understanding and design skills. You will understand industrial and commercial practices within the area of Food Technology: Unit 1(FOOD1) Materials, Components and Application -exam Unit 2 (FOOD2) Learning through Designing and Making-coursework At A2, candidates build further upon the knowledge and practical skills gained at AS level. Unit 3 (FOOD3) Design and Manufacture - exam Unit 4 (FOOD4) Design and Making Practice - course work How is it assessed? AS Unit 1is a 2 hour written paper (80 marks) and is 50% of AS or 25% A Level Unit 2 is Coursework of 60 hours (80 marks) and is 50% of AS or 25% A level A2 Unit 3 is a 2 hour written paper (84 marks) and is 25% A Level Unit 4 is Coursework of 60 hours (85 marks) and is 2S% A level How can I go on to study further and what sort of jobs can it lead to? This subject would be suitable for anyone interested in a career within the food industry including food product development and management, as a nutritionist or dietician, anyone keen to work in the catering or hospitality industry or as a Technology teacher. There are many universities offering Food related degrees such as Nottingham and Sheffield Hallam.
