This exciting and interesting course aims to develop your interest in drama and theatre, both as performers and as audience members, giving you an enthusiasm for the subject. You will experience a range of dramatic and theatrical skills, developing them with your creativity and imagination. What will the lessons be like? Unit 1: Exploration of drama and theatre This practical unit will explore two contrasting plays. You will take part in practical workshops where you will analyse structure, characterisation, staging and the dramatic, social, cultural and historical elements of the play. You will also go to see at least one live theatre performance and produce written evaluation. Unit 2: Theatre text in performance This unit consists of two sections, both using all your performance skills and directed by your teacher: Section 1- in this section you will select a monologue or duologue which you will then develop, rehearse and perform. Section 2 -in this section you will be part of a theatre company where you will rehearse, develop and perform an existing play. For both sections you will write a 500 word concept piece explaining your interpretation of character and the whole text. You will perform both pieces to an audience. How is it assessed? Unit 1-Internal assessment Practical exploration of the text. (Filmed lessons) Exploration notes (3,000 word limit). Evaluation of live performance (1,000 word limit). Unit 2-Visiting examiner Vocal, movement and characterisation skills in performance. Communication with other performers. Written concept of the interpretation of character and text (500 word limit). Assessment Weighting: Unit= 40% Unit 2 = 60% How can I go onto study further and what sort of jobs can it lead to? Graduates in Drama have gone on to work in a wide range of careers, some directly connected with Drama, such as theatre companies and teaching, whilst others work in leisure, recreation, public relations and marketing.
