Machine Knitting

Beginners (Term 1) This course is designed for learners who want to develop skills in machine knitting. You will cover a range of basic skills that include: Casting on and off, Hems, Increasing and Decreasing (Shaping), knitting stripes and Lace knitting (holes and ladders). You are encouraged to explore and create a range of samples and make an item/s of knitting that explore the use of the techniques taught. Intermediate Techniques Term 2 You will use basic skills to explore techniques created using Punchcards: Fairisle knitting, Tuck and Slip Stitch, Weaving and Lace Knitting. You will create samples and garments that explore the techniques taught. You are encouraged to create an item/s of knitting explore the skills taught. For example a lace cardigan, fairisle cushion, etc. Advanced Techniques Term 3 You will use previous skills taught to create garments that explore and experiment with techniques that include: cables, ribbings, intarsia, felting, and fabric manipulation using the knitting machine. You will be encouraged to design and create garments that can be displayed at the annual catwalk at Hackney Community College in July each year, Please note: To complete the advance course you must have basic and intermediate skills.
