This is a full time practical training course to develop students in the art and science of Professional Cookery, enabling them to work in the Hotel and Catering Industries. The apprenticeship lasts for one year with the possibility of progressing to the Advanced Apprenticeship. You will learn how to prepare, cook and present a range of food items, such as meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, cakes, desserts, soups and sauces. You will study towards a number of qualifications designed for you to achieve the skills for your chosen career: Apprenticeship: NVQ Level 2 Professional Cookery; Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles; Functional Skills Numeracy Level 1 and Literacy Level 1. You will also study Employer Rights and Responsibilities, Food Safety and Hygiene. You may be exempt from Functional Skills if you have the appropriate grades at GCSE level.
