Art is a mainly practical course where you can choose to broaden skills in painting, sculpture, textiles, printmaking, mixed media or a combination of all of them! Students produce a research sketchbook, which is ongoing homework, and includes investigation of the work of artists. This is an extremely varied course which will give you the flexibility to work across a wide range of disciplines, in order to discover where your strengths lie. The emphasis of the course is on developing your own ideas and creativity with constant reference to contemporary art practice. We encourage you to record your photographic and drawing ideas in sketchbooks to support a wider range of experimental outcomes and development ideas. Many students gravitate towards the art studios in their own time to continue their work in a supportive, highly creative and very happy environment. The first unit of the AS course is intended to introduce you to a range of different art processes and materials. The theme for the second unit is set by the exam board and takes the form of a title and a set of starting-points. It is hard work, but fun!
