Art History: Nineteenth Century Arts and Crafts

UPDATED 20161129 10:42:46

Sometimes known as 'the long century', the nineteenth century gave rise to British artists who, in the wake of the American and French revolutions, sought inspiration from the past and the future, to meet new challenges posed by technological and scientific advances, religion, labour, poverty, domestic life and love. Find out more about leading modern British painters Constable and Turner, the Bohemian Pre-Raphaelites and British Arts and Crafts movements, and how they established a British school which led to new international artistic movements, International Arts and Crafts, Art Nouveau and even Modernism.
