Unit 1 Language, the individual and society. Students will explore textual variations and representations as well as the theory of children?s language development. A variety of methods of language analysis will be taught in preparation for this examination. Assessment is by terminal examination and this unit comprises 40% of the A Level. Unit 2 Language diversity and change. Students will explore the history of the English language as well as contemporary varieties of English. Assessment is by terminal examination and this unit makes up 40% of the A Level grade. Unit 3 Non-exam assessment: language in action. Students will produce three pieces of work independently and inspired by their own interests. The folder of work will consist of a language investigation, a piece of original writing for a specific purpose and audience and a commentary of their own work. This component is worth 20% of the A Level and is marked internally and then externally moderated.
