OCR Computer Science is assessed through two exams and one programming project. The module, Computer Systems, will be assessed by a two and a half hour exam paper which accounts for 40% of the A-level. It is focused on systems architecture, which includes software & its development, types of programming languages, data types, representation & structures, exchanging data & web technologies, following algorithms, using Boolean algebra and the legal, moral & ethical issues. The second module, Computational Thinking, also accounts for 40% and is 2h30. It comprises of elements of computational thinking, programming & problem solving, pattern recognition, abstraction & decomposition, algorithm design & efficiency and standard algorithms. The final 20% is assessed by using a programming project, where the pupils will find a real user to create a system for.
