The Edexcel Geography course is split into three externally examined papers and one coursework component. Paper 1 is 2 hours, and 30% of the qualification, which focuses on Physical Geography, including Tectonic Processes & Hazards, Coastal Landscapes, the Water Cycle & Water Insecurity, the Carbon Cycle & Energy Security, and Climate Change Futures. Paper 2 has the same timings and weighting, but it tests Human Geography understanding. Units are: Globalisation, Shaping Places, Superpowers, and Global Development & Connections. Paper 3 is Synoptic and lasts 1hr45. The coursework is an Independent Investigation, 20% of the qualification, of between 3000 - 4000 words. It is internally assessed and externally moderated. Students investigate a question or issue relating to any aspect of geography contained within the specification.
