The Edexcel Theatre Studies is split into three components. Component 1 is devising an original performance piece, which is 40% of the Grade. Students produce a portfolio which forms two thirds of the available marks and the other third is marked on the quality of the performance or design. Component 2 involves performing in or designing two separate live productions of extracts of published plays. This is 20% of the A-level and is externally assessed by a visiting examiner. Component 3 is a written exam, worth 40%, which lasts 2h30.
