This course was originally developed with input from practising teachers, The Royal Society of Chemistry and GlaxoSmithKlyne. It includes an increased emphasis on understanding and application of key concepts rather than recall, with ideas of How Science Works integrated into the learning outcomes. The course begins with chemistry concepts introduced at GCSE that are familiar to students and progresses them further. Students are also encouraged to develop competence and confidence in a variety of practical, mathematical and problem solving skills, in addition to developing an interest in and enthusiasm for the subject that may lead to further study and careers associated with the subject.
