Students will follow two units over the two years of the course: Tsarist and Communist Russia 1855 - 1964. This unit examines how Russia developed during the 19th Century and how the conditions were created for the Revolutions of 1917. The period up to 1917 is covered in Year 12. During Year 13 students explore the development of Communism in Russia and the creation of the totalitarian superpower, the Soviet Union and The Making of Modern Britain 1951 - 2007. We consider how Britain emerged from the period of the Second World War and examine how Britain altered in the second half of the Twentieth Century. We explore change in British politics, in the economy and in society. We look at Britain's changing place in the World as a declining Imperial power, in the context of the Cold War and also Britain's changing relationship with Europe. The period up to 1979 is covered in year one and the years 1979 to 2007 covered in year two. Students will also complete a 3,500 word Individual Assignment.
