On this A level course you will study the following course content: In first year: Biological molecules (including carbohydrates, proteins, lipids & DNA); Cells (including cell division, movement of substances into and out of cells, pathogens, cell recognition and the immune system); How organisms exchange substances with their environment (including gas exchange, digestion & absorption, mass transport in plants & animals) Genes, variation and relationships between organisms (including DNA and protein synthesis, genetic diversity, adaptations, taxonomy, biodiversity) In second year: In the second year Energy transfers in and between organisms (including photosynthesis, respiration, nutrient cycles) How organisms respond to changes in their internal & external environments (including nervous system, muscles, homeostasis) Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems (including inheritance, natural selection, populations, ecosystems) Control of gene expression (mutations, regulation of protein synthesis, cancer, DNA technology, genetic fingerprinting) In addition to course content you will carry out a variety of practical procedures and be expected to keep a log of these. You will also develop mathematical, analytical and evaluative skills
