The BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design is a unique full-time two year course. You will discover and enhance your understanding of Art and Design (and its specialist applications) through a very practical hands-on experience. Our team of dedicated and experienced practising professional artists and designers, will help to deepen your understanding of your work and that of others. You will work in both 2D & 3D processes, methods and materials across a range of activities. The course is dedicated to responding to the needs of contemporary industrial and creative trends within the creative world, from a range of digital opportunities to re-inventing and updating traditional media. Our aim is to support young students needs looking to a future in the creative industries. This work is complemented by visits by and to industry, exhibitions, museums and galleries. Stage 1 introduces you to a wide range of art and design practice; A diagnostic period where you have the chance to unpick the formal elements of creativity, and be exposed to a wide range of techniques, processes and materials in our excellently supported and dedicated workshops. You will then be introduced to the potential of specialist study and then choose one to study for the rest of the course. 3D Design Crafts; including product design, architectural and spatial/interior design, Furniture, contemporary craft subjects such as ceramics, jewellery. Graphic Design and Illustration; including Typographic design, logo and branding, packaging, Advertising, animation, illustration. Textiles and Fashion Design; including fashion design, pattern cutting, fashion illustration, fashion styling, printed & constructed textiles, fashion photography, costume and fashion marketing. Stage 2 completes the extended diploma, with further specialisation within your pathway, increased independence, portfolio preparation and support for progression to higher study, for which the course has an excellent reputation.
