The Certificate in Skills for Work & independence is a course designed to help learners prepare for employment and independent living. The units are based on acquisition of tangible life skills such as 'Healthy Living', 'Managing Own Money' and 'Basic Cooking'. The delivery of the units is underpinned with embedded literacy and numeracy teaching to consolidate learning and ensure learners reach their full potential in all curriculum areas. Vocational experience and preparation for employment is provided through a variety of specialist vocational subject areas, taught by industry specialists in purpose-built teaching areas and workshops. Learners can try their hand at Horticulture, Art & Design, Floristry, Vehicle Maintenance, Catering or Hair & Beauty. Learners finish the course with an increased sense of self confidence and a greater awareness of some key employment sectors.
