The course consists of 4 units. In AS the students study Unit 1: People and Politics and Unit 2: Governing the UK both of which contain four sub-units of which the pupils study three from each. At St Augustine's we study: 1.1 Democracy and Political Participation 1.2 Political Parties 1.3 Elections 2.1 Constitution 2.2 Parliament 2.3 The Prime Minister and Cabinet At A2 level the pupils go on to examine political ideologies in great detail. Unit 3B- Themes in Political Analysis Liberalism Conservatisms Socialism Unit 4B- Extended Themes in Political Analysis Feminism Nationalism Multiculturalism.
Name: Government and Politics Qualification title: - Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment Currently the students take two assessments at the end of Year 12 and two at the end of Year 13. The year 12's will be the last year to undertake the current format for the exams. The exam board we use is Edexcel and each assessment is 90 minutes. The year 12 students answer two questions on two of their chosen sub units. In year 13 the students must have in-depth knowledge of all ideologies covered.
