In both AS and A2, this course links chemical theory to real life applications: AS modules include: -: Practical skills: planning, implementing, analysis and evaluation-: Foundations in Chemistry: atomic structure, bonding, moles, acid-base and redox reactions-: Periodic table and energy: Groups 2 and 7, periodicity, enthalpy changes, qualitative analysis, reaction rates and equilibrium (qualitative)-: Core organic Chemistry: hydrocarbons, alcohols, haloalkanes, organic synthesis, infra-red spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. A2 modules include: -: Physical Chemistry, transition elements: quantitative treatment of equilibrium and reaction rates, pH and buffers, enthalpy, entropy and free energy, electrode potentials, transition elements-: Organic Chemistry and analysis: aromatic compounds, carbonyl compounds, carboxylic acids and esters, nitrogen compounds, polymers, organic synthesis, chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy
Name: Chemistry A Level Linear Qualification title: GCE A Level in Chemistry A Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment The AS assessment consists of two 1.5 hour written exams of equal weighting taken in May/June In A2, there are three written exams taken in June. There is also a 'practical endorsement', a certificate of competence in experimental skills, assessed on several occasions throughout the course.
