AS CORE 1: INTRODUCTION TO ADVANCED MATHEMATICS This module builds on the work of GCSE to gain fluency in algebraic manipulation. You will learn to use mathematical language and symbols appropriately, and the basic ideas of proof and mathematical modelling are introduced. This module is an AS module which is required for AS Mathematics. No calculator is allowed in the examination for C1, so although a graphical calculator may be useful for exploring new ideas, you should ensure that you are confident in the techniques in this module without your calculator. AS CORE 2: CONCEPTS FOR ADVANCED MATHEMATICS Work on trigonometry is extended and logarithms are introduced to build on C1 work on indices. New concepts are also introduced: in particular differentiation and integration, which are developed further in later modules. This module is an AS module which is required for AS Mathematics. AS STATISTICS 1 This module builds on data handling and sampling techniques, and the ideas about probability that you learned at GCSE. You will also begin to gain an insight into the ideas and techniques underling hypothesis testing. The ideas in this module form the foundation of more advanced statistical techniques. Mathematics A-level is essential for students who wish to study mathematics at university. It is an essential element for subjects such as physics, engineering and computer sciences as well as the natural sciences.
