You will spend three days in college focusing on the ways that children learn and develop, and two days a week in a range of childcare settings to give you valuable, practical experience of working with young children. This course covers topics including: children and play, communication and professional skills, introduction to working with children, safe, healthy and nurturing environments for children, the developing child, the practitioner in the workplace. Your placement will be in appropriate childcare and education settings, including schools, early years units and day nurseries. At your interview you will need to show us that you: are committed to the course and that you aim to improve your literacy and numeracy skills as you study, have good school reports for attendance, punctuality and behaviour, where possible, have evidence of previous experience of working with or caring for children, for example, voluntary groups or work experience.
