You will also learn about a wide range of horticultural topics such as: - Developing practical skills in horticultural environments - Use of horticulture machinery and equipment - Constructing and caring for decking, pergolas and raised beds - Ponds, water features and rock gardens - Functional or GCSE maths and English skills - Employability, supervisory and team working skills - Landscape construction - Maintaining lawns/turf - Plant and soil science - Creating and caring for a wide range of plant displays - Plant identification and knowledge - Producing new plants and sales - Historic garden styles and features

You will be required to buy protective clothing such as safety boots, work clothes and water proof outdoor clothing. Stationary such as pens, pencils, a writing pad and folder will also be essential. Visits to local attractions and organisations will be arranged throughout your course and some additional entry fees may be required. The course is vocational and is taught by experienced and qualified members of staff. Practical work is regularly carried out off site with local partner organisations. This work is valuable in developing your practical skills in realistic work settings.
