Media Studies AS Level Media Studies is a modern qualification which allows you to express yourselves creatively, as well as develop your analytical and production skills. This is an extremely successful course which achieves fantastic results and positive feedback from the awarding body. Media Studies is an excellent foundation for various industry jobs and continuation to higher education as it develops a wide range of valuable, industry and academic skills. Course Content Across your two years of study you will engage with a wide variety of Media texts from print based formats such as magazines and advertising, to audio/visual formats such as TV, film or music production. From this, you will explore the production process of how these texts have been constructed, as well as examining the significant impact Media texts can have on audiences. For both pieces of coursework, across the two years, you will research and investigate existing Media texts of your own choice. This research and investigation will then inform your own production pieces where you will produce industry standard texts of your choice. This choice includes print texts, where you will be supported to use editing facilities and programmes, or audio/visual texts where you will use filming, lighting, audio and editing equipment. For the examinations, you will analyse specific Media texts, looking at how they have been constructed, how they attract different audiences and how different groups of society are represented within them. Entry Requirements Students should hold a minimum of 5 A* - C GCSE grades including Grade C at GCSE English Language How will I be assessed? Coursework and timed examinations Progression A Level Media combines well with other creative subjects and enables you to progress into both university education and employment.
