Understand the use of musical devices in composition. 1.1. Describe through listening, a range of musical devices including: a) a sequence b) modulation and simple harmony c) imitation d) cadence e) articulation f) orchestration. 2. Be able to develop compositional ideas. 2.1. Create a compositional idea or theme. 2.2. Produce a collection of preparatory sketches which show the use of musical devices for the idea or theme. 3. Be able to compose a piece of music. 3.1. Create a composition of up to eighty bars appropriate for a chosen instrument(s) that shows: a) a range of compositional devices b) use of form c) consistent style. 3.2. Compile a score or annotation for own composition. 4. Understand the compositional process. 4.1. Describe the process undergone in developing the composition. 4.2. Define the results for each stage.
