This course has been designed to give you an understanding of ancient Roman history, literature and beliefs It helps you to further improve your Latin translation and comprehension skills, whilst advancing your range of vocabulary knowledge Not only will you gain a greater understanding of the legacy of the ancient world, you will also acquire knowledge and skills which will help you to become good problem solvers and critical thinkers You will learn vocabulary and grammatical constructions in accordance with the subject specification. You will be expected to translate unseen passages of Latin into English and answer comprehension questions. You will study one verse set text (Virgil, Aeneid 8) and one prose set text (Cicero, Pro Milone). If you choose examination at the end of Year 12, there will be two papers: Language (01) Unseen Latin Prose, tested by translation and a comprehension passage (1h30) Literature (02) Latin Verse and Prose Literature, tested by comprehension questions In Year 13, in addition to the AS content, you will learn vocabulary and grammatical constructions in accordance with the A level specification. You will be expected to translate unseen prose and verse passages of Latin into English and scan the metre of lines of poetry. In addition to the set texts covered at AS level, you will study one verse set text (Ovid, Heroides) and one prose set text (Tacitus, Annals 1). If you choose examination at the end of Year 13, there will be four papers: Unseen Translation (01) Unseen Latin Prose and Verse passages, tested by translation. Scansion of two lines of Verse metre (1hr 45) Comprehension (02) Unseen Latin Prose and Verse passages, tested by comprehension (1hr15) Prose Literature (03) Latin Prose literature, tested by translation, comprehension & essay (2hr) Verse Literature (04) Latin Verse literature, tested by translation, comprehension & essay (2hr)
