This A level qualification builds on the skills, knowledge and understanding set out in the whole GCSE subject content for mathematics and the subject content for AS and A level mathematics. Problem solving, proof and mathematical modelling will be assessed in further mathematics in the context of the wider knowledge which students taking A level further mathematics will have studied. A Level Further Mathematics B (MEI) is a linear qualification. Learners enter for the mandatory unit Core pure (Y420) and then a combination of optional units. School will confirm which options it will offer. The content is listed below, under four headings: 1. Mathematical processes consisting of mathematical argument and language, problem solving and mathematical modelling. This content is assessed in every unit. 2. Core pure content 3. Major options • Mechanics major (Y421) • Statistics major (Y422) 4. Minor options • Mechanics minor (Y431) • Statistics minor (Y432) • Modelling with algorithms (Y433) • Numerical methods (Y434) • Extra pure (Y435) • Further pure with technology (Y436)
