What Entry Requirements Do I Need? It is useful to have taken Art (GCSE or BTEC level 2) or Expressive Arts at GCSE. You will need to have achieved 4 GCSEs at A to C as this is an advanced course. How Will I Be Assessed? In the 120 credit Art and Design Diploma the course comprises five mandatory units which are: • Visual Recording in Art and Design • Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design • Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design • Communication through Art and Design • Contextual Influences in Art and Design These units underpin all other units in the course. These units are worth 50 credits. The additional 70 credits will be gained through the completion of Art and Design specialist units. What Will I Learn On This Course? A range of Art and Design techniques including Drawing and Painting, 3D, Graphic Design, Mixed Media, Print Making and Art History. What Kind Of Person Studies This Course? Students who are interested in art and design and may want to take it further Post 18. (It is usual for students to take a one year foundation course, pre-degree). BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma In the 60 credit Art and Design Subsidiary Diploma the course comprises four mandatory units which are: • Visual Recording in Art and Design • Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design • Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design • Communication through Art and Design These units underpin all other units in the course. These units are worth 40 credits. The additional 20 credits will be gained through the completion of Art and Design specialist units. It is possible to gain either a Double Pass, Merit or Distinction or a combination of these grades. Your final grades will be determined by the number of Pass, Merits or Distinctions you achieve overall.
