BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate and Diploma The 360 Guided Learning Hours (4 units) BTEC Extended Certificate and the 720 Guided Learning Hours (10 unit) BTEC Diploma in Sport provides a specialist work related programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the appropriate vocational sector. Who Will Teach Me? The teaching of the BTEC National Diploma and Extended Certificate will use the expertise of staff from the Vale Academy. What Entry Requirements Do I Need? A minimum of a grade C in GCSE Physical Education or a Merit in BTEC Level 2 First Sport is a basic requirement. If a Physical Education or similar course has not been studied then a Grade C in English, Maths and a Science is a minimum requirement. What Will I Learn On The Course? There are 4 units in total that must be completed to achieve the National Extended Certificate and 10 units that must be completed to achieve the BTEC National Diploma in Sport. There are 3 main times of assessment that you need to be made aware of: External, Internal and Synoptic. Unit 1: Anatomy and Physiology will be assessed through a written examination and marked by the examining body. Unit 2: Fitness training and programming for Health, Sport and Well-being will be assessed through externally assessed synoptic assessments. All students will be provided with a case study 2 weeks prior to a supervised assessment period. For the other units we are able to use a variety of assessment methods, including case studies, assignments and work-based assessments, along with projects, performance observation and time-constrained assessments.
