Study at A2 will build on the themes and ideas established at AS: Study of three texts: one poetry and one prose text and one Shakespeare play. Questions will focus on: Shakespeare: One passage-based question with linked essay Unseen poetry: Compulsory essay question on two unseen poems Comparing texts: One essay question linking two texts Also a choice of two options Option 2A: WW1 and its aftermath Option 2B: Modern times: Literature from 1945 to the present day Questions will focus on: An unseen extract and the set text you have studied. Non-exam assessment: Independent Critical Study: Texts Across Time Also a piece of coursework A comparative study of two texts What Will I Learn On This Course? This course will enrich your appreciation of literary texts by giving you the opportunity to read a variety of genres, discuss different ways of interpreting texts and investigate ways poems, plays and novels are influenced by social, cultural and historical contexts. English Literature will develop your skills of analysis, debate and imaginative thinking as well as the quality of your written work. You will follow AQA Specification A. Where Will An A Level In English Literature Lead Me? While in the Sixth Form at Brigg, English will complement a number of other A Level subjects e.g. History, Drama, Media, French and German, as well as providing an interesting contrast for students taking Sciences or Mathematics. It develops a range of skills which, in combination with other A Levels, will provide a suitable entry qualification for a Degree course. A Degree in English can lead to a variety of professions e.g. Law, Journalism, Teaching, Management.
