What Entry Requirements Do I Need? The minimum requirement is a Grade C at GCSE, although, due to the challenging nature of both the AS & A2, we prefer higher grades as proof of real linguistic ability. How Will I Be Assessed? At both AS and A2 Levels, there are assessments in the four skill areas of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. AS Level: Unit 1 - Listening, Reading And Writing A 2 hour examination worth 70% of the AS marks and 35% of the A2 marks. Unit 2 - Speaking An individual test lasting 15 minutes, with 20 minutes preparation time, worth 30% of the AS marks and 15% of the A2 marks. A2 Level: Unit 3 - Listening, Reading And Writing A 2½ hour examination worth 35% of the total A Level marks. Unit 4 - Speaking An individual test lasting 15 minutes, with 20 minutes preparation time, worth 15% of the total A Level marks. What Will I Learn On This Course? AS topics: media, healthy living/lifestyle, popular culture, family/relationships. A2 topics: environment, the multicultural society, contemporary social issues, a cultural topic of your choice (can be based on an interest in literature, history, geography or art). You will continue to develop your language skills so that you can communicate with native speakers, both orally and in writing, at a high level. This will involve extending your understanding of grammar and increasing your knowledge of vocabulary to enable you to discuss current affairs and issues affecting young people.
